6 Ways to Not Let the Holidays Derail Your Nutrition

Let's face it... the holidays might be a good time for our taste buds, but a lot of the classics aren't exactly ideal for our waistlines (looking at you, eggnog and pumpkin pie!).

But, what if we could enjoy the glorious holiday without sabotaging our health?

As an Accountability Coach at All In By Teddi, I coach my clients to enjoy all the fun and food, while still feeling good in their skin. 

Here are my go-to holiday tips to keep it healthy, as well as the recipe for my favorite anti-inflammatory kale and cashew soup to bounce right back in case you indulge a little.

Healthy Holiday Tips:


1. Eat mindfully. While you're eating, sit back and truly enjoy your favorite holiday flavors. Savor the taste, aroma, and texture of the foods. It takes a few minutes for your stomach's "I'm full signal" to reach your brain, so take a 10 minute social break after your first helping. 

2. Keep it simple. Butcher’s by Roli Roti Bone Broth has only 3 ingredients, and so should most of your dishes. There's no need to complicate; simple tastes better and keeps you in control of what you're eating.  

3. Stay hydrated. Water accounts for 60% of our body’s total weight and we need to stay hydrated in order to maintain this ratio. If you're consuming alcoholic beverages, alternate with glasses of water in between your cocktails. Your body will thank you the next morning! Plus, thirst can be disguised as hunger, so always hydrate first. 

4. Switch up the classics. Swap mashed potatoes for mashed cauliflower; opt for a veggie platter and hummus instead of a cheese plate, and load up on salad and roasted veggies prior to going for grandma’s green bean casserole. 

5. Reinvent your holiday workout. In order to stay motivated and avoid skipping the workout, plan your workout regimen around your holiday schedule. Instead of the usual 60-minute routine, do a 30-minute workout in the morning or take it outside for an evening walk after dinner.  If you don't have time to hit the gym, work out in the comfort of your home with the help of online tutorials; Google is your friend. 

6. Be proud of your choices, not regretful. Plus, you never know who you will inspire. Often times we feel the guilt of indulging and throwing our goals to the sidelines to make Aunt Karen feel good about her apple pie. Talking about making this a healthy holiday season isn't something to be shy about, spread the word and let's all feel amazing.
